はじめに

　わが国の運転免許保有者総数が2011年11月末で8100万人を超える現状において，脳卒中患者で運転免許を保有している者も多く存在していると考えられる．リハビリテーション（以下，リハ）が終了に近づく頃には再び社会参加をしていく上で，患者やその家族から運転の可否について質問を受けたり，反対に助言をしたりする機会が増加するであろう．脳卒中によって明らかに認知機能の障害が残存している場合と残存していない場合は判断に迷うことはないが，その中間の場合には判断が難しいと思われる．

　運転免許の欠格条項が見直された現在では，障害があると言う理由だけで運転してはいけないとは言えず，運転免許試験に合格する能力や自動車の安全な運転に支障がない能力があれば，誰でも運転できると定められている．

　今回は，脳卒中患者が再び自動車を安全に運転するために必要となる，障害を補う運転補助装置，運転免許制度，また，運転評価や訓練の実際について報告する．

Abstract : Important points to consider when a patient wishes to continue driving after a stroke that can make it safer and more comfortable include not only choosing a car with built-in features that will be easier to use but also a full assessment of the driver's skills and driver re-education for the patient resuming driving.
