In Yamanashi Prefecture, training for communication support personnel for people with aphasia began in 2020. In order to recruit supporters, flyers were distributed to municipalities, social welfare councils, regional comprehensive support centers, and other organizations to publicize the recruitment campaign. In the three years starting in 2020, we were able to register 30 communication supporters, which was the prefecture's goal. Members of the “Aphasia Friends' Association Fujiyama,” run by our association, participated in communication support training and outing support that required the cooperation of those concerned. Starting in FY2021, we created the outline of the dispatch project after exchanging opinions with the prefecture. The prefecture conducted a survey on the use of dispatch programs and held briefing sessions for 27 municipalities. In FY2020, 13 municipalities have decided to budget for dispatch projects. In the same year, a dispatch project was started in Kofu City, and 10 supporters were dispatched. Our association submitted a request to the prefecture for adequate provision and consideration of public transportation in order to encourage people with disabilities to go out and participate in the local community through the communication support project for people with aphasia.
