  • Abstract

I was asked by the editor of the Japanese OT Journal to record some of my thoughts about International Congress of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists 2014 in June. I am conscious that my one-week visit was short. My reflections here are going to be random.

Who am I and why I did I attend the congress ? I am a senior lecturer in Occupational Therapy at the Canterbury Christ Church University in England. My clinical background is in Mental Health for Older People in community. My research interest covers areas such as aging, dementia care, family caregiving and community based practice. I presented a paper entitled,‘Supporting activity engagement by family carers at home: enhancing sense of self and personhood'. For me, it was good to take the opportunity to share the findings of my study and to get feedback from colleagues about my work. More importantly, I see the Congress as an opportunity for learning, and sharing ideas about OT practice in different countries. Throughout the Congress, I had plenty of opportunities to meet and talk to so many OTs, and felt inspired by them.
