  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Vessels in the mediastinal region are at risk for causing serious injury, and should be treated more prudently in video-assisted thoracic surgery than in open surgery. For vessels such as pulmonary arteries, pulmonary veins, bronchial arteries, azygos veins, the superior vena cava, and others, safe operation in accordance with the character of each vessel is needed. Moreover, one should be conscious of the limits of video-assisted surgery and be prepared to convert to open surgery if necessary. In the case of emergent vessel injury, adequate treatment corresponding the situation is needed.
