In order to facilitate observation of patient's positioning during laparoscopic surgery, a transparent drape to observe the lower limb directly was developed and compared with non-woven surgical drape. Between 25 patients in non-woven and 25 in transparency groups, operative time, humidity and temperature under drape, body temperature, and neuropathy were examined. No postoperative neurological impairment occurred in any patient. The mean temperature and the body temperature were 1.0℃ and 0.3℃ higher in the transparency group than the non-woven fabric group, respectively. For the medical staffs, semi-structured interview and occupational stress simple-questionnaire were conducted. In the stress scale, the score of six staffs was higher before the use of non-woven drape. In semi-structured interviews, most of the staffs mentioned that the level of stress decreased after the use of transparency drape. The transparency drape showed similar environment within the drape to non-woven surgical drape, and it could be useful in detecting abnormality during operation at early stage.
