65歳以上の高齢者が要介護となる原因疾患の第1，2位は脳卒中，認知症である。脳ドックは脳に特化した健康診断であり，学会認定を受けた施設では脳MRI検査による画像診断はもちろんのこと，認知機能の評価，頸動脈超音波検査による頸動脈病変の評価が含まれ，潜在的な脳血管病変や認知症の前段階の軽度認知障害患者の検出に有用なシステムである。脳卒中，認知症の早期発見，早期治療に結びつくことが期待される。

Abstract

The major conditions requiring nursing care in the elderly are stroke and dementia. At institutions certified by the Brain Dock Society, individuals receive not only brain MRI and MRA but also cognitive assessments and carotid ultrasound examinations to detect silent cerebral small- and large-vessel disease, brain atrophy, and mild cognitive impairment. Early detection of asymptomatic cerebrovascular disease and mild cognitive impairment in Brain Dock screening is expected to help prevent stroke and dementia, particularly among older adults.
