  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

It is indeed a privilege to share reflections on nursing research for Japanese nurses in the distinguished journal, Kango-Kenkyu. I appreciate the efforts of colleagues in Japan and the USA, and of the journal editor, to present this special issue on the Roy Adaptation Model and Nursing Research. This is an important time for the development of nursing knowledge. Over recent decades in your country as in mine, we have clarified the focus of nursing knowledge. At the beginning of the 21st century nursing has matured as the discipline that focuses on persons and environment integration in situations of health and illness. As a practice discipline we have developed strong research methods to understand human life processes and to develop and test approaches to diagnose and intervene to restore and to enhance health.
