　多年にわたり，ウイルス肝炎とその原因菌は研究者にとって一つのなぞであった．最近10年間において，その課題に関する情報が著しく増加しているために，その知見の進歩についていくことは極めて困難になっている．この論文の目的はB型ウイルス肝炎とその原因菌についての幾つかの最新の進歩を明らかにすることである．

For many years viral hepatitis and its causative agent have been an enigma to investigators. In the last decade there has been such ^*1 an increase of information on the subject that it challenges one's ability to ^*2 keep abreast of ^*3 the advancement in knowledge. The purpose of this paper is to bring into focus ^*4 some of the latest developments with regard to ^*5 viral hepatitis B and its causative agent.
