  • Abstract

Introduction―In the world literature, Campylobacter fetus, previously classified as Vibrio fetus, has been implicated*2 in less than 100 cases of human infection. The organism, first isolated in cattle by McFadyean and Stockman, has been identified as the causative agent of infectious abortions and infertility in ungulates*3. However, human abortions and cases of gastroenteritis, septicemia, septic arthritis*4, local abscesses, meningitis, and pericarditis have also been presented with this reportedly *5"opportunistic" *6 pathogen as the etiological agent.
