Flow cytometric immunophenotyping is a useful tool for the diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndromes(MDS). But it has been considered that flow cytometric immunophenotyping has little weight in the diagnosis of MDS, because there is no consensus for immunophenotypic parameter to discriminate accurately between MDS and other conditions. However, recent advances in the analytical method and knowledge of MDS immunophenotype are changing this idea. In this report, the author reviewed most relevant progress in diagnostic utility and standardization of flow cytometric immunophenotyping in MDS.
