Cytokines have two major functions : Inflammatory cytokines produced from innate immune induce inflammation and adaptive immunity. Other important cytokines, which are produced from helper T cells, activate innate immune cells, B cells and cytotoxic T cells (CTLs), which function as execution forces for adaptive immunity. Activated effector helper T cells secrete different types of cytokines depending on their roles. Furhtermore, IL-10 and TGF-β which are mostly produced from regulatory T cells (Tregs) suppress immune responses. Therefore, cytokines form a complex network by their producers and receivers, which regulate immune response precisely. However, disregulation of this network causes immune diseases such as allergy and autoimmune diseases.
