  • Look Inside

A 65-year-old female presented with the chief complaint of odynophagia of about 20 years' duration.

Examination revealed a thumb-finger-tip sized, dark purple mass in the upper pole of the left palatine tonsil.

Arteriography showed the mass to be hemangioma with no major vessel supply. Left tonsillectomy was done under general anesthesia accompanied with ligation of the facial and lingual arteries. Histopathological report was cavernous hemangioma with phlebolith.

Bibliographical discussions including etiology, clinical course, diagnosis and treatment were also done.
