The effect of disodium cromoglycate (DSCG) on degranulation from Gorden-rod-extracted antigen stimulated metachromatic cells in nasal smear from patients with type I allergic rhinitis induced with Gorden-rod was studied by the in vitro observation system of antigen-dependent-degranulative phenomenon.

The results were as follows :

 1) Degranulation from metachromatic cells in nasal smear was inhibited by the addition of DSCG before antigen stimulation. However, the addition of DSCG after antigen stimulation, these effects were not detectable.

 2) In clinical use of DSCG, the same effect was observed, i.e. the administration of DSCG was used 3 months before the onset of attacks of allergic rhinitis.

 3) The same effect was obtained in both cases that DSCG was administrated during and seasons or 3 months before attacks of allergic rhinitis.
