We report here clinical experiences of 9 cases with congenital anomalies of the ossicles and with normal tympanic membrane and external auditory meatus. Stapedectomy was performed in 10 ears of all these cases. As protheses, Teflonpiston wire was used in 8 ears, while Gelfoam wire was utilized in 2 ears. In 8 ears, the wire was hooked on the long process of the incus, whereas the mallet's attachment was adopted in 2 ears.

Hearing improvement was obtained in all cases postoperatively. The closure of air-bone gap varied in degree in each case. It was considered that the sound conduction system of the attached prosthesis is often ineffective in some cases with more deformities than the other. However, stapedectomy, if applicable, was strongly recommended on congenital anomalies of the ossicles with the intact external auditory meatus.
