  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A survey of general physical conditions in 59 cases of malignant tumors of the head and neck region observed at the ENT Department of the Central National Hospital of Nagasaki, during the period of 3 years and 4 months, Sept. 1972 to April 1975.

 1. The cases consisted of malignancies involving the field of ENT in general and the patient's ages were mostly in the 60 and 70 year groups.

 2. The examination of the patients consisted of such tests as blood sedimentation, hematocrit, white cell count, blood platelet count urinary albumen and cholineesterase tests. Twenty seven of the 58 cases (46.5%) showed the tests to be normal as well as, 24 of the 56 cases showing the blood cholineesterase to be normal.

Basing upon these facts the authors concluded that the general bodily effects in the malignancies of the head and neck region, differing from malignant involvements elsewhere, are much less in their manifestations.
