 Twenty six cases of patients complaining of laryngeal troubles due to hypothyroidism are studied. Twenty three of these were women. Nineteen cases complained of hoarseness of the voice and other that of deafness, sore throat and lowering of the voice.

 Examination showed that there was edema of the true vocal cords in 16 cases where thicking and swelling with their surfaces uneven. Five cases showed a marked dilatation of the capillaries of the vocal cord. Nine cases presented incomplete closure of the glottis which is considered as the important cause of the hoarseness. The edema of the arytenoids was quite remarkable in 5 cases, which may have caused the lump sensation of the throat.
