  • Look Inside

There were 118 patients who sought relief of their allergic symptoms at the Allergy Clinic of the Nippon University Medical School during the period of September, 1968 to October, 1969. Dermal test for allergic reaction showed the causative factor to be bacterial in 85 cases (72%), pollen in 37 cases (28.7%) and roomdust in 34 cases (28.7%).

Desensitization was effected by intranasal route with specific antigen diluted with physiologic saline solution 1:1013 in bacterial and pollens and 1:108 in house-dusts. These solutions were used as nasal drops twice a day, morning and night. In cases where the patient was affected with more than one antigen such offenders were used in combinations.

The results showed the treatment to be effective 72.2% in relieving sneezing, 55.7% for nasal blocks and 68.1% for watery running-nose.
