There is a tendency, today, of seeing an increase in the number of optic traumas in occurrence as the result of increase in the number of head injuries caused by ever increasing number of cases of occupational and traffic accidents. With optic traumas precipitated by fracture of the optic canal, decompression surgery is called for at an earliest possible moment to relieve the compressed optic nerve.

The authors report 7 cases of decompression of the optic nerve which were accomplished by trans maxillar approach.

Postoperative tests of visual acuity and visual field showed a satisfactory results in all cases except the 3 of whom the visual acuity was 0 before the operation.
