GINGIVAL HYPERTROPHY CAUSED BY USE OF ALEVIATIN

　Ⅰ．緒言

　1851年Charles Locockが癲癇に臭素製剤を使つて以来，いろいろの薬品が用いられるようになつたが，1937年Meritt ＆ Putnamにより，Diphenylhydantoinが使用されてから，臨床で注目をあび，広く愛用されるようになつた。

　けれど，癲癇という病気の性質上，長期投用を余儀なくされるので，副作用の発現も少なくなくそれについても注意を払わなければならない。とくにわが耳鼻咽喉科領域において，Diphenylhydantoinの長期投用による副作用としての歯肉肥厚または増殖症はまれではなく，注意すべきものである。

　Diphenylhydantoin (aleviatin) is known as the ideal antiepileptic drug at present. Although its side effects are not so annoying as those of phenobarbital series, yet a long period administratidn of the former will cause disturbances in the central nervous system, digestive organs and skin particularly gingival hypertrophy.
