Yamamuro holds that reports on disturbances of hearing caused by gastro-intestinal upsets of infectious origin. have been numerous in the literature but cases which are caused by non-in-fectious origin, as it is reported here, are exce-edingly rare.
The patient, a girl 8 years old,was afflicted with sudden onset of acute abdominal pain that could not be ascribed to any cause and with sore throat and headache. The temperature ran-ged from 39 to 40 degrees centigrade. There was repeated nausea and vomiting accompanied by diarrhea which was non-mucous in character but numbered 3 to 4 times a day. These symp-toms continued for about 3 days when the pa-rents noted the patient did not hear well in both ears. Under treatment the patient recovered from her acute symptoms but the hearing loss which progressed to total deafness by the 4 th day of the disease remained unultered.
Hearing and vestibular test made on the case with notes on progress of the disease are discus-sed in comparison to other reports in the lite-rature.
