KIKUCHI reports three cases of perceptive de-afness which simulated deaf-mutism but recover ed under a regimen of treatment adopted by him. A girl aged 19 became an apparent deaf-mute following mastoidectomy performed upon her at an earlier age for treatment of chronic otitis media which induced a complication of agranulocytosis and motor aphasia. By use of penicillin combined with glucose solution parenterally by intra-arterial route through cervical arteries the patient made a comple-te recovery of motor aphasia and a marked improve-ment of hearing. Arother girl, aged 19, who was diagnosed as irrevocable deaf-mutism at arother cli-nic, recovered her hearing by regimen of intr- -arterial injections supplemented with pneumo-ence-phalography and faradizations. The third case was a girl aged 8 who made a completere covery of speech and hearing when radical mastoidectomy was perfor-med for the care of long standing chronic otitis me-dia.
