悪性脳腫瘍に対するMumps virus療法の試み

Treatment of Malignant Glioma with Mumps Virus

I．はじめに

　1923年Levaditiにより，vaccinia virusがEhrlichascites tumorにoncolyticに作用する^5）と報告されて以来，動物実験においても臨床症例においても，いろいろなvirusを用い多くの試みがなされ，1950年代においては一世を風靡した感がある^7），しかしながら腫瘍も殺すが宿主も殺すという感のもてる，virus感染による重篤な副作用も同時に確認され，やがて治療法としては忘れ去られるべき運命をたどったように思われる．

　最近，浅田は悪性腫瘍患者に対し，mumps virusを投与し，一過性の中等度発熱以外の副作用は認められず，腫瘍に対して効果の認められた症例を報告した^1）．そしてその作用機序としてdirect oncolysis以外による可能性も示唆した^6）．

Six patients with malignant brain tumor were treated withmumps virus. Four patients were treated in combinationwith irradiation and chemotherapy postoperatively, onepatient in combination with irradiation without operationand one patient with mumps virus alone postoperatively.Mumps virus was considered to he effective in three caseswhich were described here in detail.

First case: A 51-year-old male with glioblastoma in theleft thalamus was treated with irradiation and chemotherapyafter partial removal of the tumor. Follow-up CT scans,however, showed 60% increase of tumor size in spite ofthese treatments.
