Ⅰ．緒言

　脳神経外科を訪れる患者の中でも，めまいや平衡障害を訴える患者は多くいるが，これらの患者の中には神経学的所見に乏しく，いろいろの検査を行っても何ら病的所見を示さないものが珍しくない．このような場合に，神経耳科学的検査が診断上重要な役割を果すことがしばしばあり，このことはすでに従来より多くの報告がある．一方神経耳科学的検査は何回もくり返し検査することができ，経時的および定量的な変化を観察することができる．

　開頭術の術後に脳幹および大脳半球の障害が一過性に起こるであろうことは十分に想像されることであるが，手術直後の安静を要する状態で患者に負担のかかる検査をくり返し行うことは困難である．

The examinations of gaze and optokinetic nystagmus were porformed at bed side before and after craniotomy.

Gaze nystagmus were obsreved regularly in 120 cases who got the intracranial surgical procedures in Nagoya university hospital.

Postoperative nystagmus which were not seen before operation appeared in 16 cases of 91 patients with supratentorial lesions and 24 cases of 27 patients with infratentorial lesions.
