  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

An attempt has been made to study the effectsof GABA, GABOB and GAB-choline on the maximal electroshock seizure (MES) and electroshockseizure threshold (EST) in mice. Each drug wasadministrated subcutaneously. On the basis of theresults obtained, the following conclusions havebeen reached.

1) in acute administration:

a; only GABOB showed a little inhibition onthe MES (decreased the duration of thetonic extension phase of maximal electroshock seizure).

b; all drugs had no effect on the EST.

2) in chronic administration:

a; GABA, GABOB and GAB-choline hadno inhibiting effect on the MES.

b; only GAB-choline elevated EST a little.

3) There was not synergism between GABA or GABOB and phenobarbital or diphenylhydantoin on the MES.

4) Thus it seemed that GABA, GABOB and GAB-choline had no clinical antiepileptic action.
