  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

GFAP (glial fibrillary acidic protein) has been regarded as a specific marker of neuroglial cells especially of astrocytes. To use this reaction for the identification of the astrocytic cells, therefore, establishment of specificity of the immunohisto-logical technique to detect GFAP is of vital im-portance.

Results of the immunohistological reactions depend greatly on the methods of staining, fixa-tion and processing of the specimen to be stained. The most difficult factor to control, however, is the antisera against GFAP.
