  • Look Inside

Protein kinase C (C-kinase), identified in 1977 by Nishizuka et al. is a key enzyme involved in signal transduction on the cell surface. C-kinase is ubiquitously distributed in tissues and organs, yet the precise localization of the enzyme has remained unknown. As one approach toward identifying the functional significance and struc-tural features of C-kinase, we prepared monoclonal antibodies directed against rat brain C-kinase.

After the fifth to tenth immunizations of C-kinase purified from rat brain soluble fractions, three monoclonal antibodies against C-kinase (CKI-33, CKI-97, CKII-90) were obtained.
