  • Look Inside

Protein Kinase C (PKC), a calcium-activated, phospholipid-dependent protein kinase, is abundant in the central nervous system, especially in hippocampus. PKC plays an important role in the processing of neuronal signals and in the short-term or long-term modulation of synaptic transmission, such as long-term potentiation (LTP). The enzyme is a member of a family consisting of at least ten subspecies, α, βI, βII, γ, ε, η, θ, ζ and λ.
