  • Look Inside

Early thymectomy is now accepted as the treatment of choice for generalized myasthenia gravis (MG). However, postoperative period is often complicated by requiring intensive care for several days and fluctuation of symptoms sometimes last for many months. It may often take many years before steady improvement is established. Thus most patients require continuous anticholinesterase (anti-ChE) drugs that could be harmful to the neuromuscular junction if used chronically.

To minimize these undesirable aspects of thymectomy, we instituted long-term pre- and post-thymectomy prednisolone therapy.
