Abstract

There are two groups of neuropeptides whichare involved in the regulation of anterior pituitary function. Peptides of the first group are secreted into the pituitary portal vessels from the median eminence and act at the pituitary level. These are called hypothalamic hormones. Another group of peptides seem to act at the hypothalamus, possibly to regulate the release of hypothalamic hormones. Two new hypothalamic hormones have recently been identified. One is corticotropin releasing factor (CRF), isolated from the ovine hypothalamus and identified to be a peptide with 41 amino acids.
