I．神経ブロックの意義

　神経ブロックとは神経に直接またはごく接近した部位に針先を刺入して局所麻酔薬や神経破壊剤を注入することで，一時的または恒久的に神経遮断をはかって痛みや筋の痙攣や強直を治療する方法である。そしてたとえば，硬膜外腔に局所麻酔薬を投与したとき手術のための無痛を意図したものを硬膜外麻酔と呼び，それ自体が治療を目的としたとき硬膜外ブロックと習慣的に区別している。

　神経ブロックは術後痛のように急性痛の除去には周知のようにきわめて有効である。そして痛みの存在が長期にわたる慢性痛への効果として

Abstract

In order to assess the efficacy of nerve block therapy in patients with herpes zoster, pain in head and pain secondary from advanced carci-noma, we reviewed our 10 years experience at the Pain Clinic of the Fukuoka University Hospital.

1) Herpes zoster Three hundred forty seven patients in whom the treatment was initiated within the first 14th eruption day, showed an excellent pain relief in every cases and postherpetic neuralgias were prevented in 87.9%. Some residual pain persisted in the remaining 12.1%.
