Summary

Recent advances of inner ear morphology were reported summarizing studies by various authors. Special emphasis was laid on scanning electron microscopic study of the inner ear in human and other vertebrates. Contact between tectorial mem-brane and cochlear sensory cell hairs was discussed based on findings seen on the undersurface of the tectorial membrane in humans, cats and monkeys. A few cases of inner sensory cell hair imprints have so far been reported in the cochlea of cats.
