小児視覚発達と可塑性

Development and plasticity of visual perception in the childhood

　小児の視覚は成人のそれとは全く異なったものである。それは，成人の視覚は完成されたものであるのに対して，小児の視覚は発達過程にあることで，成人においては全く些細なと思えるような障害でも，小児では重大な視覚発達の阻害となってしまう。

　小児眼科の領域においては小児の眼機能異常や眼疾患の病態生理を考えるために，まず小児の視覚発達と可塑性について十分な理解を持つ必要がある。近年，斜視，弱視の臨床的な研究から始まり，その研究はヒトの視覚の正常な発達を究明するためのいくつかの貴重な手がかりを得ており，それらの新たな知見に加え，筆者らの最近の考えも述べてみたい。

Abstract

Children have the peculiar characteristics in the visual perception as compared with adults, because children are in the process of develop-ment of visual perception and adults have already finished it. Therefore, a very slight disturbance of visual input to which adults can tolerate may cause the severe irreversible visual impairment in children. In pediatric ophthalmology, in orderto recognize the perculiarities of childrens visual dysfunction, it is to be comprehended completely about the development and plasticity of the visual perception in the childhood.
