The study of the changes during development and maturation of the vertebrate brain has provided a wealth of data for the correlation between morphology and physiology.As far as the major electrical properties of the vertebratecerebral cortex is concerned, we can now distinguish three distinct periods, occurring in the following sequence:
―Full size spike potentials develop from the 3 rd day on in the rabbit cerebral cortex, andAboth excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic potentials can be recorded from pyramidal cells.
