Electronmicroscopic Study of Experimentally-lnduccd Axonal Dystrophy in Vitamin E-Deficient Rats. :Ⅰ. Initial Stage

　神経細胞軸索に局所的に生じてくる球状ないし棍棒状腫大病変は，病変出現の場としては中枢神経系および末梢神経系の全領域を含み，発生原因としては機械的損傷を始めとして循環障害，中毒，先天的ならびに後天的代謝障害，脱髄機転，変性過程，lupus erythematodesのごとき膠原病，放射線障害あるいは正常老化過程など，神経系に起るほとんどすべての病的条件を網羅するものであり，このような事実はこの軸索病変が神経軸索の普遍的病理現象あるいは反応形式であることを物語つている。

Axonal dystrophy was experimentally induced in rats with vitamin E-deficient diet. Its initial change was found in presynaptic boutons in gracile nu-cleus. This initial change is characterized by mas-sive appearance of membranous dense bodies causing enlargement of presynaptic boutons and then preterminal axons. In parallel to this type of boutonal change,simple atrophic process is suspected to progress in other boutons resulting in wide-spread loss of boutons from neuropil replaced by intense hyerplasia of fibrous astroglial processes.
