The auther carried out a histological study of107 cases of Schwann-cell tumors, being illustr-ated by numerous photomicrographs. Variousforms of tumors examined were of 24 cases ofneurilemoma, 54 cases of neurofibroma, 4 casesof combinated form of neurilemoma & neurofi-broma, 2 cases of malignant Schwannoma, 6cases of neuronevus, 8 cases of unusual formsand 9 cases of neuroma. The sections werestained with hematoxylin-eosin and silver impr-egnation. Especially detailed investigations wereperformed on neurilemoma and neurofibroma, being carefully compared microscopical appeara-nces of both tumors.

Excluding the pattern of Verocay body, theremaining greater part of sections of neurilem-oma showed no morphological differences toneurofibroma. Also the definition of Verocaybody becomes very uncertain, when a disturba-nce of regimentary arrangement of nuclei adv-anced. Moreover a gradual transition of histol-ogical features between neurilemoma and neur-ofibroma was observed, as seen in combinatedforms. A summary of the results of the investi-gations quoted in this report leads to the follo-wing conclusions: The main parenchymatouscells of neurilemoma and neurofibroma mightbe essentially identical at all, deriving fromSchwann-cells histologically. It seems reasonableboth tumors to be placed under single oncolog-ical term, which represents the Schwann-cellorigin.
