  • Look Inside

This review provides a comprehensive and detailed anatomical basis on the auditory brainstem mechanisms from which plasticity and regeneration might be issued. The auditory system differs from the other major sensory systems in the complexity of its subcortical pathways. In the auditory brainstem at least 5 multiple channels are intermingled, crossed and uncrossed pathways run thrughout the medulla and the pons, and terminate in the inferior collicululs with some ending in other modality tegmental areas. This article is richly illustrated and surveys auditory brainstem mainly from the normal physiological point of view.
