  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

The pharmacological management of migraine usually centers on two approaches : acute treatment and prophylactic treatment. Recently, 5-HT1B/1Dreceptor agonist, such as sumatriptan, has become available and been shown to have significant benefits over traditional therapies for the acute treatment of migraine. One of the most important advantages of triptans is that these drugs work during the progressing stage of migraine headache.

In this paper, the topic of triptans and general principles of prophylactic treatment of migraine are discussed.
