PET study on vergence eye movement evoked by binocular disparity

両眼視差刺激に対して輻輳運動を行う課題を遂行中の被験者の脳内活動分布を脳内イメージング（PET）法を用いて調べた。映像刺激はHMDを用い，眼球運動を赤外線リンバストラッカーにより連続的にモニタした。このコンパクトかつ精密な刺激・記録システムはわれわれがアセンブルしたもので，脳内イメージングに利用した世界最初の試みである。従来の動物実験で想定された脳内神経回路と基本的に合致する第5次視覚領，頭頂小葉などの活動とともに，想定されていなかった紡錘回の活動が記録された。この活動は背景の存在する環境で，一つの視標を選んで輻輳運動するという文脈に関係することが示唆され，PETによる全脳マッピングの利点が生かされた結果であると考えられる。

Cerebral and cerebellar activities were mapped by positron-emission tomography (PET) during disparity-driven vergence eye movement. Subjects were young male right-handed volunteers, who gave an informed consent. Target was presented in two liquid crystalline panels of a head mounted-display with binocular disparity. Activation in consistent with previous animal studies were found, in addition to a new site which was supposedly related to the selection of a vergence target against the stereoscopic environment.
