日本脳炎は日本では消滅しそうな病気となったが，ワクチン接種率が低下しているなどの問題点がある。本邦においては高齢者，他のアジア地区では小児を中心として症例が集積され，臨床所見が明らかにされてきた。インドの報告例と比較し，視床，基底核を中心とした神経症候，画像所見など共通しているように思われる。他のフラビウイルス脳炎についても言及した。

Although Japanese encephalitis (JE) is considered uncommon in Japan, it has attained high levels of prevalence in some other areas of Asia, particularly India has been severely affected. In recent years, the elderly contracted the disease in Japan, but in other Asian countries JE has occurred primarily in people less than 30 years of age.
