Stereotactic Neuro-radiosurgery

はじめに

　近年急速に臨床の場に普及し，わが国においても脳神経外科領域疾患に対する治療手段の一つとして定着しつつあるradiosurgeryについてその概要，およびradiosurgeryの代表的な手法の一つであるガンマナイフを用いたわれわれの治療経験を述べる。

Stereotactic Neuro-radiosurgery is a concept introduced by Swedish neurosurgeon Lars Leksell in 1951, refers to the destruction of stereotactically located small target volume in brain by cross-firing of single-fraction, high-dose irradiation. To realize this concept, gamma knife, modified linear accelerator and heavy-ion beam technique has been developed. With the development and prevalence of modern neuro-imaging techniques which precisely indicate three dimensional shape and accurate location of lesions in the brain, number of radiosurgical facilities and treatment have increased very rapidly.
