Recent advances in the functional brain imaging in patients with intractable partial seizures were reviewed. A hyperperfusion area demonstrated by the ictal [39mTc] hexamethyl-propyleneamine oxide single photon emission tomography (HM-PAO SPECT) is the most reliable and practical method at present, delineating the epileptogenic zone congruent with that detected by extensive seizure monitor-ings including ictal EEG recordings with high sensitivity (72――93%) and accuracy (69――82%).
