Recent advances in the research on HTLV-I-associated myelopathy in Japan.

はじめに

　HTLV-I-associated myelopathy（HAM）は発見以来莫大な量の学術論文の報告がなされ，本誌でも1987年10月号と1991年10月号の2回にわたりHAMの特集が組まれている。ここでは，1991年の特集以降の研究の中で，とくにわれわれの教室の最近の仕事を中心に，四つのトピックスについて紹介する。

　Recent advances in the research on HTLV-I-associated myelopathy in Japan were reviewed in this paper.

　Nucleotide sequences of two HTLV-I proviruses isolated from Indian patients with HAM/TSP were analyzed. The sequence data of the env, pX, and LTR regions showed 98-99% homologies with the prototype HTLV-I, ATK-1, isolated from a Japanese ATL patient, indicating that HTLV-I isolates in India and Japan are similar, with minor variations¹⁾.
