  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Recent advance of molecular cloning has revealed the amino acid sequences of many type of receptors. These can be divided into several class of receptors by their secondary structure. All receptors have at least one transmembrane (TM) domain except for nuclear receptors.

In G protein-coupled receptor class, subunits show common structure with seven-span transmem-brane domain. These receptors transduce signals via G proteins which interact with recognition sequence in intracellular face of receptors and modulate the production of second messengers. Recently, small subsets of receptors have been cloned. These are metabotropic glutamate receptor subclass and secretin receptor subclass, which exhibit no sequence homology in transmembrane domains with any other G protein-coupled receptors.
