  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Current epidemiological studies of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) suggests that the environmental factors in the Western Pacific foci are presumably responsible for the occurrence of this disease under the condition of low calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and high aluminum (Al) in soil and water samples. This pathogenetc mechanism (process) is considered to be associated with a deposition of Ca in the central nervous system (CNS) tissues mobilized from bone through the action of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Therefore, the present study was designed to clarify the behavior of the PTH secretion and osteoblast related to bone-Glaprotein (BGP) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) synthesis, in male monkeys (Macaca fuscata) fed various unbalanced mineral/metal diets.
