Animal models are excellent when they resemble features of clinical pathophysiology. It is necessary, also, for a model to reproduce pathophysiological features under simple conditions rather than under the complex conditions usually present in clinical disease. From these points of view, we reviewed the experimental animal models of cerebral hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage.

We dismcussed the pathogenesis of hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage and amyloid angiopathy. We also referred to the animal models of intracerebral mass lesions in which an attempt could be made to reproduce the functional, metabolic and cerebrovascular disturbances caused by the hypertensive putaminal hemorrhage in patients.
