  • Look Inside

Neuronal differentiation and survival are supported by several kind of factors which are produced in many kind of cells. Among those, there is a protein called neurotrophic factor which acts on neuronal survival including neurite extension, induction of several receptors or channels. Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), target derived growth factor, has been known to be synthesized and acts in peripheral nervous system (PNS) and central nervous system (CNS), however the action of NGF for neurons is limited. Recently it has been clear that not only a target derived factor, some lymphokins are produced in nervous system. In this review, we describe some lymphokins which are indicated to be produced in nervous system and act on neurons directly or indirectly.
