I．はじめに

　神経疾患患者の療養の場として，これまで利用されてきた病院，施設，在宅に加え，最近，中間施設が議論されるようになってきた。ここでは，神経疾患患者の療養における中間施設の必要性と社会背景，および中間施設の概念について述べ，また，中間施設のさきがけとして建設された老人保健施設の概要を説明する。さらに，当院老人保健施設での神経疾患患者ケアの経験をもとに，神経疾患患者に対しての中間施設のあり方，果たすべき役割について考えてみたい。あわせて，中間施設を含めてこれからの神経疾患診療のあり方についても私見を述べる。
