Notch signaling pathway is an evolutionally conserved signal transduction cascade which influences cell fate in a wide variety of cell types. In the developing nervous system, Notch signaling functions at many stages in differentiating neurons and also has important roles in the elaboration of axons and dendrite. Regulation of Notch signaling by many mechanisms at multiple levels has evolved to allow the signal to be deployed in numerous contexts. Recent studies show ubiquitination is a one of the mechanisms that can tightly control Notch signaling pathway and several E3 ubiquitin ligases that influence Notch signaling have been discovered. This review will summarize recent progress on regulation of Notch signaling by ubiquitination.
