一般に65歳以上の人口の割合が総人口の21％以上になると超高齢社会と呼ばれる。日本はその比率が2022年に29％を突破し，これまでの政府の手厚い補助を永続的に行うことは困難である。加齢により自分，身体，社会との関係が変遷する中でコミュニティとの接点を持ち続けることは心身の健康維持の観点からも重要視されている。高齢者の健康と社会的活力を助ける道具としてバーチャルリアリティはその1つになるかもしれない。

Abstract

Generally, when the proportion of the population aged ≥65 years exceeds 21% of the total population, it is referred to as a “super-aging society.” In 2022, Japan surpassed this ratio, reaching 29%, presenting a significant challenge in sustaining the generous government support being provided. Maintaining connections with the community as individuals age, amid changes in their lives, bodies, and social relationships, is also considered crucial for the physical and mental well-being. Virtual reality may emerge as a potentially valuable tool aiding the promotion of health and social engagement of older people.
