脳動脈瘤の破裂はくも膜下出血を引き起こし，重篤な後遺症を残すだけでなく，約4割の症例で30日以内に死に至ることが知られている。脳動脈瘤に対する治療法には脳血管内治療と開頭クリッピング手術があり，本論ではそれぞれの治療法の基本事項および新しい展開について述べる。また，脳動脈瘤に対する基礎研究に用いられているモデル動物を概説し，脳動脈瘤の薬理学的治療を目標とした，最新の基礎研究も交えて紹介する。

Abstract

Subarachnoid hemorrhage is a life-threatening complication of cerebral aneurysm rupture, which not only causes severe disability but is associated with a mortality rate of ＞40% within 30 days after the event. In this article, we discuss the basic knowledge and novel therapeutic approaches to cerebral aneurysms, including endovascular treatment and microsurgical clipping. Moreover, we discuss animal models used in basic research on cerebral aneurysms and the latest research that aims to establish optimal pharmacological treatment for cerebral aneurysms.
